GAME OR LAME ???!!

Namaskaram!!

Finally I got back to writing.. Past few days have kept me soo busy with mum not in town. I now vouch that homemakers are the busiest of all ! Hatss off to them.

So my vacation so far was consumed watching the idiot box (before mum left ..) and it was a revelation as I had so much to catch up (after 4 years of abstinence from T.V in hostel!) .

Barring a few shows on NDTV , I found the Indian television channels had nothin new to offer , be it the reality shows( what drama ??!!) , the cookery shows( they teach the same thing..and the lame host always asks the dumbest of queries "aadha spoon namak chalega kya?"..not to mention all the lip smacking in front of the cameras :YUCK ! , the celebrity talk shows ( be it with koffee or beer , they are all diplomatic and unreal..!) , its better I dont mention the appall tht serials cause ( just their ads..make me soo dizzzy!).

So i narrowed my options to news channels and sports .While the former had nothing to offer but for the repeated updates on gruesome murders and the countdown for the elections.. I settled down cozily to watch IPL every evening( apart from the movies in HBO or DVD'S during the daytime.)

To stick wit the theme of my blog , here are a few moments tht i have picked from all the entertainment and action tht IPL had to offer..

Lemme begin my countdown from reverse,

5. The exclamation on Priety Zinta'a face at every twist during the match whenever her team played ( Kudos ! for her energy ) , and she proved she is an actress after all wit her diversified xpressions! Bling, yeyyy,oh nooo etc...
Yess lady..ur enthu..created 'moments' in those matches..

4. "Bajji's Thappad ", tho censored from viewers; like most of u , I enjoyed imagining how the slap would hav been ,visualising the scene of action was more intresting than watchin the petulant Sreesanth crying for Mummy ! ( geez..)
Whotta moment!!

3.Yuvraj 's giant leap to the stumps on the last ball of the game against Mumbai Indians. It was a last ball thriller and he proved tht Monty ho ya Jonty , the more you dive the more you survive! Dude ur killer instinct was an amazing moment for all the young and aspiring tiros.

2. When Sangakkara walked for a not out decision by the umpire in the semis against CSK, It showed his character and class . It could hav well been the turning point of the game . Tht moment reassured faith tht cricket is indeed a gentleman's game.

1. Dhoni playing the cool head by accepting the defeat with grace, encouraging a defeated team to a huddle in the finals. Wow! Mr. Captain Cool proved once again what the game truly stands for, its not about winning or losing but fighting hard. His heart warming speech sans any blame made tht moment and his loss so triumphant and his character the most endearing of all !

Though lot has been talked about the cheerleaders , as a woman I was truly disgusted wit the over hype about their attire ( whn more percentage of skin show is on Indian cinema..) and politicians trying to make cheap publicity out of it.These girls who are professionals like doctors and engineers in their countries nd were doing cheerleading as a sport were degraded for no fault of theirs. Shame on our country men who fail to appreciate yet another art!

SRK and Vijay Mallya were also there in news a lot.... but i feel the former has already too much hype (unnecessary ) to his name , I rather not increase it. While the latter deserves nothing but a thumbs down for his lack of spirit.

So those were my moments in IPL, inspite of the controversies and the drama , it was a huge success. It has provided a stage for the youngsters (from gaon mein ;) ) to perform and yess its the sports version of globalisation.

Though LAME in many senses, IPL has contributed to sports and proven tht cricket is a frenzy power packed and exciting GAME !

SHUBAM!

P.S: This was my take on various people and events, no offences intended to any fans. Do leave ur comments.

My love to umpire Billy Bowden for making IPL soo colourful with his histrionics and making us all smile ( c the pic, u will know wht i mean ) U were the hero !

seems dat de so called idiot box had affected u so seemingly. T indeed has a significant role n today's evolution. U aesthetic still subtle way f expoundin incidents s impressive..I suggest dat NAT GEO et al., also deserve special accolades n de rarely useful list of TV programmes headed by NDTV .. But remember even NDTV has not escaped de fever f overexposin things as u would ve clearly seen durin de release f de film, shivaji . Comin 2 IPL, I would like 2 add up on sangakkara role n de gentleman's game by linkin de incident when Parthiv patel walked out durin a similar conditions & his display of character added scores to the chennai super kings for the FAIRPLAY AWARD.. Cine stars cannot be blamed beyond an extent bcoz even de society treats dem as "born to publicize themselves" and media fuels to some of the disgustin stuff.

Yess u are ryte. Nat geo, travel and living and discovery channels are truly a blessing to Indian houselholds , again globalisation :) but if u wld note it was my take on Indian channels only. And as for cine stars they hav to be publicized but not overxposed, else they will lose their star value and ol' world charm..and abt Parthiv..yess..it was noble indeed but it was in d league stage soo i missd it!

To start with, I would like to say T.V. is rightly calld as an idiot box.. baring with some channels or I would quote some programmes rather.. all the channels are a waste.. Music channels playing the same number again and again..Coming to News channels- the same old news nd publicity stunts.. I want to bring to notice that Few months back, this news swept across all the news channels 'Sanjay
Dutt relieved by court'. 'Sirf Munna not a bhai' '13 saal ka vanvaas
khatam' 'although found guilty for possession of armory, Sanjay can
breath sigh of relief as all the TADA charges against him are
withdrawn' Then many personalities like Salman Khan said 'He is a good
person. We knew he will come out clean'. Mr Big B said "Dutt's family and our family have relations for years he's a good kid. He is like elder brother to Abhishek". His sister Priya Dutt said "we can sleep well tonight. It's a great relief"
In other news, Parliament was mad at Indian team for performing
bad; Greg Chappell said something; Shah Rukh Khan replaces Amitabh in
KBC and other such stuff. But most of the emphasis was given on Sanjay
Dutt's "phoenix like" comeback from the ashes of terrorist charges.
Surfing through the channels, one news on BBC startled me. It read
"Hisbul Mujahidin's most wanted terrorist 'Sohel Faisal' killed in
Anantnag , India .. Indian Major leading the operation lost his life
in the process. Four others are injured. It was past midnight , I started visiting the stupid Indian
channels, but Sanjay Dutt was still ruling. They were telling how
Sanjay pleaded to the court saying 'I'm the sole bread earner for my
family', 'I have a daughter who is studying in US' and so on. Then
they showed how Sanjay was not wearing his lucky blue shirt while he was hearing the verdict and also how he went to every temple and
prayed for the last few months. A suspect in Mumbai bomb blasts,
convicted under armory act...was being transformed into a hero.

Major Manish H Pitambare (who is from our very own country,
was residing near Thane in makhmali talao, who was just like one of us
some years ago a former student of maharashtra Vidyalay,Thane) got the
information from his sources about the terrorists' whereabouts.
Wasting no time he attacked the camp, killed Hisbul Mujahidin's
supremo and in the process lost his life to the bullets fired from an
AK47. He is survived by a wife and daughter (just like Sanjay Dutt)
who's only 18 months old.
No INDIAN channels brought to notice these incidents!!!!!
Be it Aishwaraya Rai getting injured (she got only scratches lol) in sets durin shooting.. media has not spared anything..
not to mention abt. T.V. soaps that r ruling prime time.. Be it Ekta's serials or the tamil soaps!!!Coming to IPL it was gud entertainer!!! Coming to cheer leaders issue, i too feel u r correct.. bcoz here In India its ok 4 malika sherawath to act in bollywood with hardly any clothes on her.. with movies being screened in mumbai but cheerleaders r not entertained by SS.. Double standards being followed 4 gettin attention.. ok i am stopping my bakwas.. in short u brought to notice the quality of indian channels in a very gud way!!

since u've asked me to...
this barney is just for the sake of doin it....
playin devil's advocate in some stance...no offences....

homemakers r not the busiest of all...the survey by ac nielsen published on ebsco database on jan 2008 shows they r the ones to watch soaps in tv, organize meetins abt how to cure the stomach ache of an ant, gossip as if the whole world is gonna end in less than an hour, etc......whras workin men spend hardly 20 mins on the idiot box...leave alone few exceptions on either ends....

i guess u missed on few channels pointed put by otr bloggers....
but, it indeed is a heavenly feelin wen u get u wake up in the mornin, switch on a news channel(preferably ndtv ,cnn-ibn,cnbc or ndtv profit) and lie in bed wit half the slumber lingerin.....

gettin onto ipl...
i hated the team kkr n kXIp just coz of srk n preity...
i believed twas a helluva publicity stunt...
saurav, ponting, ishant n sreesant became all themore reasons to hate those two teams...
bhajjis slap....most unfortunate..i was very dissapointed that he was stopped playin for a few matches....according to me....he shud b chucked out from Indian subcontinent into some no mans land....he was the only reason for me to hate mumbai indians...aftr his removal...they became one of my fav....
i'd rank my favs in this order:
CSK
R R
MI
DD
DC
BRC

n the thumbs down for vijay mallya is totally unappreciative...
he is one of the die hard fan of sports whos tryin too hard to bring in some change into this country which is in a very pity state wrt to sports....
he gettin dissappointed if his team plays bad without ny energy is certainly credible...
i do agree wit the fact abt the cheerleaders issue....
thr is whole lotta vulgarity in the indian cinema thats happenin n this is not even worth the importance of a minuscule dirt on a plain polished mirror...
nevertheless...i'd say the sports fever gettin bigger in India is indeed a good sign...atleast now, ppl might get to watch EPL n F1....

abt ur writtin style- amateur...but, do keep bloggin ;)

s'long for now,

Dinesh

Hey di! I really had fun reading your blog. I don't follow cricket much because I find that too many people's passions ride on it. Its easy to get caught up and finally, when a game goes as a game would go, your sentiments just wind up as tits for the media to milk.

Anyway, I don't get much TV in college either and when I do come home, I'm stuck on Travel and Living and Discovery more than any others.

And as for home makers...I disagree with DR. Imagine having to do a series of dull monotonous tasks every single day of your life, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with no salary, no retirement, no health insurance, nothing except good faith in the family that you 'make' the home for. Now imagine these mundane tasks NOT being performed with this tedious regularity - the fabric of all our lives, especially that of the 20 hours a day office workers, would irreparably be ruptured. So you might as well excuse soaps (though I think they are CRAP) and the gossip (though I think its VILE) and the solutions for non-existent problems, that home makers indulge in.

Maybe its time we introduce our home making mothers or wives (or husbands, this is after all the egalitarian age) to the magic portal of the internet, where they would have far more choice as to what they feed their brains with.

Enjoying your blog di, keep up the fun work!
